The winner of Sunday’s annual Salsa Contest at the Atwater Village Farmers’ Market had some tough competition – 17 total entries were submitted, creating a colorful array of different types of delicious dips competing for gift certificates donated by local businesses.
Ben Callaway’s salsa, named “Buster”, took home a prize of a free one hour massage from D-Tox Day Spa. According to The Eastsider LA, who got the scoop from photographer Nathaniel Nickels, the mild salsa made by Ben included the following ingredients:
“Cherry tomatoes, red onions, garlic, carrots, cilantro, scallions, orange juice, lime juice, cumin seeds, habanero and jalapeno peppers with salt and pepper to finish it off.”
While we were told everyone was invited to try out all the salsas after the judging, we were unable to stay for the full event. But we snapped a few photos while judges Luis Lopez, Mitch O’Farrell of CD13, and other salsa-loving neighborhood figures.
