Atwater Village history book signing at Potted

Join your Atwater Village friends, neighbors and fans for a book signing for the recently published Images of America: Atwater Village. The signing takes place at local nursery Potted in Atwater Village at 7:00 pm tomorrow – Thursday, September 15, 2011.

All authors will be present to sign your book, which includes Friends of Atwater Village board members Netty Carr, Sandra Caravella, Luis Lopez, and Ann Lawson.

About the book: “The book will take you from the days of the Santa Eulalia Rancho down to the Los Angeles River, over its bridges and on a trolley past the homes of Atwater Village families as they work, play, and shop. It also includes our wonderful equestrian community as well as a look at creative locals.”

The next book signing, along with a history presentation and fundraiser, is at 4:30 pm on September 27, 2011 at the Atwater Village Branch Library, 3379 Glendale Blvd.

You can purchase the book (before, after or during the event) at Potted, or at other locations around the area, including Alias Books East, Luis Lopez Automotive, Speed Co Fax & Pack, and Vince’s Market.

Book signing tonight at Potted

From the email announcement:

Urban farmer and landscape designer Jimmy Williams grew up in a family of 12 children in eastern Long Island, NY. He learned to garden from his Gullah grandmother Eloise, a descendant of Caribbean slaves who believed that working the soil fed the soul as well as the body. Williams moved to California in the 1980s and planted his own garden in the spirit of hers. These days, when he’s not overseeing his growing grounds or planting edible gardens for clients, Williams, along with his son Logan, dispenses cultivation and cooking tips, plus vegetable, herb, and fruit seedlings, at three Los Angeles farmers markets.

Susan Heeger, a California native and graduate of Harvard University, is a long-time magazine and newspaper feature writer with a specialty in garden, design, home, lifestyle, and food stories. A contributing editor for Coastal Living and Martha Stewart Living, where she served as staff writer for several years, she also co-wrote The Gardens of California, which was published by Clarkson Potter. She has written extensively on edible gardening for publications ranging from The Los Angeles Times Magazine to Country Living and Whole Living. With the support of their son Simon, she and her husband Rob Steiner, a landscape architect, grow their own vegetables year-round in Los Angeles.

What a fun book! And Potted is really one of our favorite shops ever. Drop by the garden store tonight in Atwater Village, starting at 6:30 pm.
