Two new businesses taking up shop on Glendale Boulevard in Atwater Village

Glendale Boulevard is seeing a surge of new businesses and activity in the past couple of years, what with the opening of Proof Bakery, Bon Vivant Market, Links n Hops, and more. Two more spaces are gearing up to open on the popular main street of Atwater Village, including a Boba cafe and a new music venue.

Boba Loca is taking over A Boutique for Little Tots at the lower end of street at 3121 Glendale Boulevard. The menu includes, of course, Boba, shakes, smoothies, coffee, and “slush coolers” with flavors like Honeydew. Eater LA says it plans on opening up in three months (so November or December).

Just up the street at 3149 Glendale Boulevard is Vox Populi, a “a pop up music venue” by Kaldi Coffee and Jacknife Records & Taps. Vox Populi is Latin for “voice of the people.”

Tomorrow is Autumn Nights on the Boulevard!

Summer’s officially over, and with the sun setting much earlier in the evening comes our last neighborhood night on the Boulevard tomorrow – Thursday, September 28, 2011.

Revo Cafe won’t be hosting live music this time around due to noise complaints from neighbors, but there will be live music in front of Kaldi Cafe.

Atwater Village Farm is hosting “Savory Night” with a few delectable vendors, including: Coldwater Canyon Provisions, Darren the Chef, Frog Dog Herbs, Christistina’s from Spain, Chef Vince Votan, and Jam I Am.

Hugo’s will also be hosting their ice cream social, A Place to Create will have plenty of artsy things to do, and family funtime will as always be hosting at NILA: (Nature Inspired Learning through Art). 55 Degree Wine will have food trucks, and Brazilian Yoga and Pilates demonstrations in front of Kaldi as well.

There will be more events, be sure to check in at the Neighborhood Council table for a map of all participating vendors along Glendale Boulevard!

Vegan discounts at Hugo’s Tacos this week

You probably didn’t expect to hear your tummy grumble this early in the day, but we’re going to make you hungry with this article.

Super awesome vegan blogger Quarry Girl has teamed up with one of our our favorite lunch spots Hugo’s Tacos for a super special discount.

From February 14th-20th between 5:00 pm and 10:00 pm, mention “guarrygirl” and get 25% off all vegan items! You can take advantage of this at both Hugo’s locations in Studio City and Atwater Village. Cannot be combined with any other discount.

While pretty much everything is good at Hugo’s, she recommends “the bowl” :

it comes with your choice of filling, salsa, and cheese…along with lettuce, organic rice and beans, guacamole, onion, and cilantro. i always get mine vegan style with the soy chorizo, potato and zucchini filling, shredded daiya, and jalapeno salsa—so good! with the QG discount, this bowl is only $4.44! and trust me, it’s huge. pretty great, right?!

throughout the week i will be posting more about the vegan yummies available at hugo’s tacos, as i try my hardest to work through the entire menu. i have long been obsessed with the nachos and taquitos…in case you’ve forgotten.

Make sure you try out your vegan options at Hugo’s, even if you’re not a vegan, and read Quarry Girl’s blog because it’s awesome.

If you’ve ever been to Hugo’s Tacos in Atwater Village, you know the drill. If you’re a Hugo’s newb (we know you are out there), pay close attention and your first visit will go smoothly:

First you pick the item you want (let’s say, a delicious burrito), then you choose a filling (like chicken). I’ve heard great things about the red meat, but I’m also a fan of either the chicken or the zucchini/corn/string beans fillings. Lastly, you choose a salsa – a common favorite is Honey Chipotle, but it’s a little sweet and I recommend the Salsa Habanero (it’s really, really spicy so if you get it on the side you can grab a few drops here and there).

Why go here? The food is simply delicious and well prepared. The beans and rice are organic, and there are lots of vegetarian and even vegan options. The chips are fresh, and the salsa even better. At least once a week, I get the nachos with zucchini/corn/green beans and they are TO DIE for. SO check out the menu below and let us know what your favorite Hugo’s menu items are!
